It sounds like a science fiction scenario, but it’s actually just one of a number of potential scenarios being explored by the robotics industry at the moment.
For the past five years, Google and Ford have been working on self-driven cars, using artificial intelligence to create a system that can drive itself around a complex, multi-lane highway.
In each of these examples, the car uses a combination of sensors, cameras and software to detect and react to obstacles in the road, while simultaneously driving itself.
“What happens when you have that kind of self-controlled vehicle is, it can actually drive itself.
The vehicle itself can get into a different lane and it can drive along the other side of the highway,” said Peter Diamandis, chief executive of Google.

The technology that is being developed is also designed to be self-contained, so the car will be able to operate autonomously while on the road.
Google’s autonomous car project was originally funded in partnership with a startup called DeepMind, and its goal is to eventually create self-drive cars for all roads by 2020.
Google’s vision of the future includes a world in which the car can be powered by electricity, hydrogen and solar energy.
Diamandise believes that the technology will become even more practical as we approach the end of the next decade, when electric cars will make up nearly half of all new cars on the market.
“What I think is very exciting is the pace of technological progress.
We have this massive amount of data, and we’re not just talking about the automotive industry here, we’re talking about a world where cars are not just about driving but they’re about transportation and transport management,” Diamatis said.
“If you think about how much energy is being wasted in the transportation industry, how much money is being spent to transport vehicles and people, that’s an incredible amount of waste.
“In fact, they’re really working on how to take advantage of that. “

Google and Ford are planning to use the technology to create an autonomous car that can travel from point A to point B in just 20 minutes, with no need for human intervention.
The autonomous car will use sensors and cameras to detect obstacles in a road, and a computer to drive itself to a destination.
A self-aware computer will then be able determine whether to take a different route, and then use those changes to adapt to a situation, such as if it encounters a particular obstacle.
According to Diamas, a driverless car will ultimately allow cars to make fewer mistakes, reducing the number of crashes, fatalities and injuries on the roads.
Although the technology is not yet ready for mass production, Diamareis said it is possible that Google’s self-guided cars could one day be able become the norm for all road vehicles.
Ford and Google are not the only companies working on autonomous cars, though.
In February, Ford announced that it would begin testing an autonomous electric car with a range of 150 miles.
The car will have a range-extending battery that will allow it to travel up to 120 miles on a single charge, which would be about one-tenth the distance of a traditional diesel car.
Google has also begun testing an electric car, but the company is still a long way off from having a self drive car.
Google announced in December that it was working on an autonomous vehicle with a battery that could travel up and over 150 miles on just a single charging charge.
While Google’s vehicles are technically able to drive themselves, the company has not said what its self-Driving technology is capable of.
What’s more, Ford has said that it is not developing its own autonomous cars.
There is still, however, plenty of room for improvement in the technology.
Diamareides said the current state of self driving technology is largely driven by the need to have the car be safe and secure.
“If you look at what’s already in the cars, they are not always safe, they often have to be programmed to go somewhere and they may not always be safe because they don’t always have to follow the rules,” he said.
